Let’s dip into the archives for today’s #throwbackthursday.
Lone Star Cement featured Faulconer in this 1961 write-up detailing prestressed concrete bridges constructed as a part of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Faulconer installed the beams of the bridges using cranes to position and set the beams over challenging terrain.
Based on the location of these bridges on the parkway, Lone Star Cement likely produced the concrete bridge components at their Botetourt County, Virginia, cement plant, which opened in 1951. Sometime in the 1960s, this plant started doing business as Roanoke Cement and continued until Titan America completed its acquisition of Roanoke Cement in 2000.
Here’s where it gets interesting! Since 2018, Faulconer Construction has provided overburden removal services (second picture) for Titan at their Botetourt cement quarry and continues to do so to this day. The same plant that produced the beams Faulconer placed in 1961 continues to benefit from Faulconer’s top-quality people and execution in 2024!
