Scope of Project:
The new 500,000 SF – $190M Martha Jefferson Hospital is being constructed to replace its current hospital located in downtown Charlottesville. The new building sits on an 88-acre campus adjacent to their current Outpatient Care Center on Pantops Mountain at Peter Jefferson Place.

Project Description:
Faulconer was awarded the civil package by M.A. Mortenson on the New Martha Jefferson Hospital Campus relocation project. The project encompassed 88 acres in Albemarle County, VA. The work included clearing and grubbing, erosion control measures, 593,000 CY’s of earthwork and grading, 36,500 CY’s of rock blasting and excavation, 11,700 LF of storm drainage, 120 drainage structures, over 3,000 LF of sanitary sewer, 8,200 LF of waterline, 33,800 LF of curb and gutter, 43,000 TN’s of stone base, 30,000 TN’s of paving, guardrail, pavement markings and site signage.
Some of the other aspects of the work included the 150′ of a 48″ jack and bore for the sanitary sewer main under State Farm Blvd., radial storm sewer, over excavation and backfill of footers and foundations, building backfill, civil concrete flatwork and several segmental block retaining walls.
