Norfolk Southern Railroad Bridge, Durham, NC

As the General Contractor to Norfolk Southern Corporation, Faulconer was awarded a $3.6M contract to replace the NC 54 railroad bridge and install approximately one mile of siding track, and then relocate the existing main track. The project required building the new railroad bridge in two phases while Norfolk Southern and AMTRAK conducted normal operations without disruption. Faulconer jack and bored 36" casings under the railroad bed, moved 54,000 cubic yards of earth, and placed over 16,000 tons of ABC. As a signature project to the North Carolina Railroad Company, the owner of NCRR received a 2006 EDGE award from the Triangle Business Journal in the engineering category for improving the Traingle's quality of life.
